FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Throbbing Gristle
Since November 2010 Throbbing Gristle has functioned with just two remaining members (myself and Cosey Fanni Tutti) and TG no longer perform live shows. This situation was bought about by two occurrences - at the start of the TG 2010 European Tour Genesis P-Orridge walked out without explanation or apology… then in the following weeks Peter ‘Sleazy’ Christopherson died in his sleep at his home in Bangkok. You can read more about these issues HERE
As sole directors of Industrial Records Ltd. myself and Cosey Fanni Tutti have taken responsibility for distribution of the Throbbing Gristle back catalogue and of any unreleased TG material.
The Gristleizer
The Gristleizer (aka: The Gristleiser or The Gristliser) was an analogue special effects unit used by Throbbing Gristle during the 1970s & early 1980s. The original Gristleizer unit (including the name) was designed and made by me and was partly based on a DIY construction project by Roy Gwinn that was published in Practical Electronics magazine. Much more info on this can be found on my Gristleizer page.
We are legion…
There are many Chris Carters (link) - but I am not the same Chris Carter who wrote the X-Files, or Chris Carter the politician, or Chris Carter the athlete, or Chris Carter the DJ (although I have/I do DJ). I am Chris Carter the experimental electronic musician… amongst other things.
Remixes
Myself and Cosey will consider ‘Carter Tutti’ remix proposals if not too busy on other projects - rates are negotiable per project. However, we will only accept projects if I like the material - please ask before sending anything. Note: we are not currently taking on any new remixes or studio production work, so please do not ask.
Live performance, DJ Sets, Commissions
For various reasons, I very rarely now undertake solo performances or requests for live solo DJ sets. I am also no longer taking on any new collaborations or production work, so please do not ask.
Interviews
We (me, Cosey, C&C, CT, TG etc.) get many requests for interviews. Nowadays we rarely give 'face to face' or phone interviews unless they are set up well in advance through our manager or the Mute press office. Where ever possible my preferred option for interviews is via email. Please send a proposal/outline and CV first.
Technical Queries
Sorry but I don't answer constructional queries or fault finding problems concerning my original Gristleiser unit, the various Gristleism units, or the Casio CZ101 mod-circuits I've posted previously on our web sites. Google is usually your friend in such cases...
Instructions & Manuals
Please do not ask me to photocopy instruction manuals of gear I use, have used, or is listed on this site, the TG site, or the Carter Tutti site - I don't have the time. However, I do occasionally upload scans of 'brochures' relating to retro gear during 2010 LINK
Gear Sales
We occasionally have online sales of our gear, usually from this site and which can include studio equipment, synthesisers, instruments, effects, drum machines and so on. If you wish to purchase from one of these events then follow my Twitter account or Subscribe to our mailing list for updates.
